There has been a 19% increase in the number of petitions to Wind-Up companies being presented to the courts so far this year compared to the same period in 2015
Between the 1st January and 9th June 2016 (inclusive), petitions to wind-up 42 Irish companies have been heard by the Courts - an average of about 2 per week - this represents a 19% increase on the figure for the same period in 2015 (34).
In order to present a petition to have a company wound up, an individual or a company (most likely a creditor) must be able to show that they are owed a minimum of E1,269.74 (approximately 1,000 in old Irish punts).
Of the 42 companies, 22 (52%) have been, or are in the process of being, wound-up.
Petitions to wind-up a further 6 companies will be heard by the courts before the end of this month.
